The First Impact Marathon Value
Nick Kershaw - CEO & Co-Founder
Nick is inspired by showing people their ability to make the world a better place. From a career in finance to creating the first ever Uganda Marathon he has now taken the concept of running to change the world to a whole new level. The Impact Marathon Series is now live in 5 new countries, taking on Global Goals, working with 17 beneficiary charities and helping to drive change in communities across the world.
In just its first three years of existence, IMS has raised over $250k for charities around the world and seen just shy of 200 people join us for the week long experience that renders them, forever, an 'Impact Runner'.
Nick is the energetic leader of the dream and revels in making a vision into a reality - bringing people together through the power of running. His own running experience experience has seen him carrying his bike past 3000 people for over a mile during his first Ironman, finishing a marathon into the oldest Athletics stadium on earth in his homeland, Greece...as well as having the rare, but remarkably easy to achieve accolade, of being blacklisted from North Korea...
Matt Fenton - Co-Founder
With 15 years in the social travel arena, Matt brings a wealth of experience. Frequently found all over Latin America he has worked to build several successful social enterprise travel companies that take people out of their comfort zone to developing countries around the world to volunteer and experience new destinations and cultures. He has a brilliant strategic mind and is set on building key partnerships across the world.
Charlie Drinkwater - Sales
It is probably fair to say that Charlie’s experience is best characterised as varied. Combining three years of selling insurance to private equity companies Monday to Friday with selling Australian men’s swim shorts on weekends and during holidays is not what most would call conventional but 'conventional' is not a word we have much time for at Impact Marathon.
From triathlons and marathons to Marathon des Sables - Charlie says 'yes' and then works out how to actually succeed as he goes.
Above all Charlie is driven by a desire to make the most of time. That is what he finds most inspiring when it comes to an Impact Week, seeing what can be achieved and the difference that can be made when a group of people give their time to a project or a cause fills him with a determination to spread the IMS message as far and as wide as possible.
Bex Watson - Community & Partnerships
The only team member to have actually won an Impact Marathon, Bex arrived into the Impact Marathon fold through participating (and winning!) in Nepal, then volunteering in Guatemala and now coming on board to build our amazing Impact Runner community. She'll be the woman who gets you fully prepped for race day and your Impact experience.
Hailing from the middle of North Yorkshire Moors National Park she has a degree in Sports Therapy, specializing in massage and rehabilitation and now lives in London where she has worked for Nike since 2013.
A true running evangelist, crossing the finish line of her first and running straight into my best friends arms is still was one of the best feelings she has ever known. In particular, Bex is well versed in the emotional journey you go on and the people you meet through running make it so special and unique, wherever in the world you are.
"The emotional journey you go on and the people you meet through running make it so special and unique, wherever in the world you are."
Mark Maughan - Delivery Team
Joining us from the team that created the Sierra Leone Marathon, this man is a veritable expert at delivering marathons in extraordinary and challenging places. The Delivery team starts here. With a bucket load of marathon planning experience, Mark is passionate about traveling, exploring and running. He handles any curveball with consummate ease and an ever present smile!
With a degree in Sports Journalism, Mark has worked with a host of top class athletes from Mo Farah to Haile Gebrselassie. A career change saw Mark help establish events including the award-winning Sierra Leone Marathon, a Liberia Marathon and Melbourne triathlons. This grounding makes him the perfect man to take on the Impact Marathon challenge and create truly unique and groundbreaking running experiences, on both Impact races and our White-Label challenges also.
Abi Jones - Delivery Team
Abi joins us from the Ironman UK team to drive forward our Delivery team, and ensure that no matter where we are in the world we are delivering consistently to the highest standards. Abi has always been a big advocate of both sports development and sport for development, and has taken every opportunity to work and volunteer towards these personal goals.
Abi has recently completely her first Ultra during a Guatemalan summer (!) and sees Impact Marathons as a means of using what we love most in the world, what inspires us, and what has changed our own lives, to do the same for others.
"IMS provides the platform and opportunity for us to do this for communities across the world and I'm very proud to be involved."
James Campbell - Delivery Team
James’ passion for the outdoors, sports and leadership is evident from his unconventional degree in Adventure Education. Whether guiding underprivileged city children on new adventures in the countryside of his hometown in Dorset or organising road races, triathlons and mass participation ultra marathon events across the country, he thrives in helping others to explore new places and their own limits.
James loves being involved in IMS as it combines his experience and skillset together with his favourite past times – travelling the world and going running! His IMS highlights so far are running through the Nepalese Jungle on the lookout for jaguars and seeing the first Guatemala Impact Marathon come to life whilst feeling like a cowboy patrolling the route on horseback.
James is a quite the running geek to, having completed 15 marathons and countless other races. He usually has an ambitious goal on the horizon and uses this challenge-driven attitude along with his wealth of personal experience to bring you the best routes and events possible, which you can assure will not be tame..!
Jacqs Leui'i - Impact Leader
An empowered woman on a quest to complete an Alphabet Marathon (N = Nepal, G = Guatemala, C = Colombia...gettit?)! Jacqs has built her own role in the team through sheer determination and a thoughtful consideration as to where her skills could be most powerful.
Jacqs handles all our charity partnerships, from our Beneficiary Charities in each country to our Partner Charities that recruit their own runners to Impact Races. She even has her own setup 'Unite For Nepal' that works in far reaching communities that lie a long way from key healthcare and educational establishments.
Never short of energy, she leads our morning yoga sessions, drives our fundraising and is our "sweeper extraordinaire who is always the last to cross the line, and always with a smile on her face!
"I believe whole-heartedly in the philosophy of Impact Marathon Series. I believe in the integrity of the people who are working hard to make it become what it has the potential to be. I believe in dreaming big and despite the naysayers, going out and doing your best to make the world a place where reduced inequalities become the norm."
