BOOK

THE EXPERIENCE

Guatemala x Impact Marathon is a world-first... Trail Running meets Festival meets Social Impact! Everything you love about an Impact Marathon - crammed into 2 action-packed days! Run by Guatemalans, Run for Guatemelans. Nestled inside Finca El Amate, you'll be joining together with runners from across the country to spend time working on, learning about and engaging with the future of the country. Saturday will be spent with the community in La Dignidad, delivered by the inspiring team at SERES. For the night, we'll be all camping out together in the shadow of Pacaya - enjoying the sunset bar, and getting to know your fellow runners. Then, as the sun peaks behind the rolling hills, that iconic lava field awaits. It's race day. Run 10km, 21km or 42km and enjoy the power of running together, with others, for others.

I 'Lava' This Race

21km

Taking on the Southern lava field will push you to dig deep inside yourself. Barren. Hot. Windy. Raw.

It is completely unique. You’ll head for a downhill start winding through fincas and then into our moonscape world with the piping volcano up high above you to your left.

It is an out an back course so what goes down, must come back up - so get ready for a simply amazing, challenging second half - and keep yourself distracted by the admiring the power of Mother Nature that you will see all around you

La Bestia de Pacaya

42km

There are some courses, that when you run them, they touch your life forever. This route is absolutely one of them.

With 2000m climbing up to 2400m altitude to the crater of an active volcano, where you feel the rumble of the earth beneath your feet and the deep black lava rocks.

From the volcano, you will then head down to the southern lava field and take on kilometre after kilometre that can best be described as ‘running on the moon’.

HIGHLIGHTS

Athletes' Village

A night in nature. A night surrounded by positives, energised runners. A night of celebration, of discourse and of spectacular fireworks from the crater of Pacaya

SERES

One leader. That’s all it takes. One leader can change an entire nation forever. That’s the battle that, our partners, SERES are fighting. To find that one leader, in every community that can change the future…that inspires hope, opportunity and opens up social mobility.

Rios de Lava

We've travelled the world, we've run a thousand trails - and we always come back to this one! The moon run, spectacular, surreal and is brought to life by you. Some times there is wind, some times there is heat but every single time there is a spectacular backdrop, brutal running terrain - amazing

Global Running Movement

This is a major moment in the history of Impact Marathon. Guatemala will be the first ever 2 day, locally focused event and, with your support, this experience can become a global running movement. Are you ready to create a race like no other?

THE TRIP

Day 1

Project Day

For the first time in Impact history - the project day is now designed for local runners to see, feel and understand how to make a difference in the world, communities and our own families.

After meeting and setting up camp in Finca El Amate, we'll bus across to La Dignidad community where long-time Impact partners - SERES will be hosting a day of learning, working and engaging with the young leaders that, with your support, can drive the future of the country.

After a day there, it'll be back to our Athletes' Village for sunset drinks in the shadow of Pacaya. Dinner, campfire and a festival atmosphere will make for a powerful night.

THE IMPACT

The power of SERES lies in the vision for long term, systemic change through empowering the youth to lead. Great leaders inspire real change, they catalyse development and unite communities. We can’t tackle Climate Change without the leaders who will make the hard decisions and stand up for our plannet. SERES works across a diverse group of young, future leaders. They work across all indigenous groups, they work across gender, they work with those who have something inside them that burns to be a leader, that burns to create change. What inspires the Impact team… It is not easy, it is not a programme that will show you tangible results tomorrow - but it will be truly powerful and inspiring to see the youth of today blossom into the leaders of tomorrow.

Green World x Impact

With ecosystems ranging from lowland to pre-montane tropical forests, wetlands, mangroves and lagoons, the forests of the Guatemalan Caribbean are home to extraordinary beauty and biodiversity. The coastline is part of the Mesoamerican Biological Corridor, a natural land bridge from South to North America and a migratory corridor for hundreds of species of birds. Agriculture and cattle ranching have reduced original forest cover by 65%. The project protects the remainder by addressing drivers of deforestation through law enforcement, land-use planning, education, economic development, and sustainable agroforestry. Hundreds of landowners, spanning the entire Caribbean coastline, have combined to protect almost 54,500 hectares of forest and to prevent the emissions of 18 million tonnes of CO2.
