Colombia International Marathon: 13th - 19th February 2017
Choose Colombia and you'll join us in Santa Marta - the Pearl of Latin America. Santa Marta is hugely significant in the history of Latin America and is now rejuvenating in a truly exciting way. The race, and your work, will play a central role in this process as we create a landmark Impact Week! It is the Colombia you've seen in the movies: brooding, impenetrable, and thick with the legacy of 50 years of guerrilla warfare.
For the first few days you'll get stuck into a variety of projects, from building, to social work, to street football. Then after resting up on day 5, you'll join hundreds of locals in the hills of one of the world's only dry forests. You’ll run through hot, dense rainforest overlooking the city of Santa Marta, with the finish line on the beautiful beach front, guaranteeing an awesome backdrop to your race experience! Then it's time to reflect on an awesome week, to celebrate what you have achieved and to party hard (if you have the energy, of course!).
MON: Today you arrive in historic Santa Marta. We'll pick you up from the airport for our first evening together - a welcome from our Chief Pioneer Nick, a short history of Colombia and a delicious welcome dinner to meet all your fellower pioneers.
TUES: Wake up refreshed and ready to go. This is the day you get to visit one of our amazing Global Goal projects to see how your fundraising will make a lasting difference.
WEDS: Today you get the chance to continue with your amazing project work. There'll be time later to relax in the pool and enjoy a beer.
THURS: It's an early start again for day 3 on your project. By now you will have a really good understanding of the longterm impact of our work.
FRI: Rest day - visit one of the beautiful nearby beaches, relax in the village or explore the local area and enjoy our famous pasta party in the evening.
SAT: Race day - as the excitement mounts, you'll make your way to the start line to run alongside hundreds of locals through dense rainforest and stunning scenery.
SUN: Time to say a fond farewell to Santa Marta and your fellow pioneers to continue your travels or return to the airport.
The Athletes' Village, staffed by the local community, will be your home for the week. Hidden just outside Santa Marta, amongst the coffee plantations and banana trees, it's a tranquil hideaway to relax after a long day's volunteering. There's a swimming pool for you to cool off in after your project work and you'll enjoy the golden sunsets at our legendary Sunset Bar where you'll forge new friendships with your fellow runners and our Impact Marathon Team.
